Stop Procrastinating Today To Get What You Love Tomorrow

Procrastination is one of the most common reasons why goals are not achieved. One of the reasons that this post was delayed was because I procrastinated. I am good at multitasking but of course there is a limit to how much one can multitask. Ideally 2-3 tasks are manageable. Somehow I cannot stop at 3 :(. There are so many things going on in my mind at one time. There are so many things I want to learn, which are time consuming. Eg. I design websites but I also want to learn the development side because it will only help me in my web design. I want to concentrate on my health so I want to make time for exercise. I want to spend time with my wife, my family because that is the most important part of my life.

I am not successful at making time for everything but I try to prioritize and plan things as best as I can so that I do things that I enjoy doing. In the middle of all this I may lose sight of some but I follow my heart.

Ultimately if my mind and heart are set on something I know that sooner or later I will come back..

When I think about why I procrastinate there are quite a few reasons.. or excuses.. well however you want to call it. Either I am just plain lazy… or may be I am not feeling like accomplishing anything.. we all tend to have those moments or sometimes days ;).. or sometimes there are just so many things that I don’t know where to start. No matter what there are certain tasks or chores that need to be done irrespective of how I feel. What I have observed is I have a list of tasks that need to be completed. Some require immediate action whereas some can wait. Instead of focusing on a subset I try to remember everything.. even before I have complete one thing I start thinking about the next :$ and then I tend to lose track of what I was doing… this is lack of concentration.

Procrastination will block you from achieving your goals and doing things that you love doing.


To bring around a small change I have implemented couple of changes. First I make a list of tasks, which I keep on my phone.. :) there is a reason why it’s called smart phone haha.. then I remember the first three tasks. I pick the first one and make sure it is done before I move to the next. Now, that procrastinator inside me kicks in occasionally. I have to feed him too and keep him happy so that he doesn’t get mad at me. For that purpose I have implemented a 48-hours rule on myself.. I can only procrastinate on a task for 48-hours. I HAVE to get my task done within that time frame or else I go on a self cursing spree and remind my self what a BIG loser I am..

I have been honestly practicing this technique for last month and I already see the results. I don’ sweat on things piling up to the last moment, I don’t have a huge to-do list, and I actually feel like I have done something. Now don’t get me wrong.. this is not just for daily chores but I use it to do things that I love doing.. which, in the end, makes me :) :)

I am sure there are more than one ways to skin a cat.. would love to hear how you avoid procrastinating or overcoming it.
